We have bred only seven litters; two for our first bitch Ch Chacewater Desdemona; one for Ch Sherwyn Sea Witch; two for Ch Temeraire Tache, one from Ch Sherwyn Silver Mink in 2001 and one from Silver Mink's daughter Sherwyn Steal My Heart in 2006. Dog showing has also been limited and spasmodic over recent years. Some of our earlier achievers however, have been: Ch Sherwyn Sundance, Ch Sherwyn Sea Witch, Ch Sherwyn Sky Fox, Sherwyn Storm Fox, Ch Temeraire Tache, Ch Sherwyn Scarlett OHara and litter mates Ch Sherwyn Silver Mink and Sherwyn Shades ov Silver. All these dogs have won In Group and In Show awards at either or both Open and Championship Show level. Some special achievements from our earlier dogs - Ch Sherwyn Sky Fox - twice "Manoah" Encouragement Award winner for consistent wins at Championship Show level, and Runner Up to Dog of the Year award (English Setter Association); Ch Temeraire Tache - Melbourne Royal and English Setter Association of Victoria Specialty Reserve CC wins and Runner Up to Bitch of the Year award (to her litter sister); and Ch Sherwyn Scarlett OHara - Multi In Group winner, ESA of Victoria Specialty Challenge winner and ESA of Victoria Bitch of the Year award recipient. Ch Sherwyn Sea Witch and Ch Sherwyn Scarlett OHara have both had the opportunity to show their natural hunting instincts in the quail paddocks.
Tara finds a pigeon Here are some of our early dogs - oh! "novice handlers!" - and if we could only have been more dedicated to taking photos!(We all hope for a photo to show both dogs and owners/handlers at their best, but we all know this is not an easy task! Too late for better photos for many of them, but always hope for improvement with the younger or more recent ones!)
We have had much joy from this breed, and our home will NEVER be without an English Setter! Any enquiries on this beautiful breed or the Victorian breed clubs activities are most welcome. So, the last 7 years have seen just two litters ... as well as minimal showing ... Puppies were born 14 March 2001 from Ch Sherwyn Silver Mink to Ch Graylors Hot Topic. Litter mates, Sherwyn Steal My Heart (Ally) and Ch Sherwyn Be My Valentine (Nikki) were lightly shown and only for a year or so, but Nikki had some nice class in group/show wins (Breed club and All Breeds), and Bests in Group at Open Show level. Here are some photos ... babies first, and as they grew in the first two years!
AND on 3 January 2006 - our litter from Sherwyn Steal My Heart to Graylors Gossip Man.

The prefix "Eirefyre" was registered, and a dog puppy, Autumn Dew of Truestone (iid) (Pridewood Pioneer x NZ Ch Autumnwood Golden Showers Imp UK) was purchased from Christine Thompson in New Zealand. Ch Spyefire Maiden Voyage (Imp UK) was shown to her title, winning a Junior in Group award along the way, and Ch Autumn Dew of Truestone (iid) (Imp NZ) won a few class in group awards as well as a Runner Up in Group at Championship Show level. Both are Melbourne Royal CC winners. Perhaps the most 'noticed' Irish Red and White Setter in Australia has been Gr Ch Eirefyre Morganagh CDX AD who has been campaigned by Pamela Gelme. "Morgan" is now a veteran. UK visitors have been impressed with her breed type, temperament, and true colour. "Morgan" is also a Melbourne Royal CC winner, and in 1998 went Best of Breed. Her father, Ch Autumn Dew of Truestone (iid) was Best of Breed at this show in 1997. Morgan attained her Australian Grand Championship title in February 2000, and her CDX in December 2000 and continues to compete in obedience and agility with many titles gained. Well done Morgan and Pamela!
Many of the imports behind Eirefyre Red and Whites are most notable, and include Sh Ch Spyefire Pandoras Box (Ch Spyefire Maiden Voyages litter sister), a multi Crufts CC winner and the current UK breed record holder for CCs (20 to date); their father, Sh Ch Spearpoint Sambooka Flambe is still the breed record holding male. The Spyefire kennel has produced many British Show Champions.
The breed in England and Ireland has progressed a great deal from when it was first granted CC status in 1988. Temperament, soundness and overall conformation have improved dramatically.
The Irish Red and White Setter is a very different breed from any of the other Setter breeds. In brief, they need more attention, more exercise and more patience. They are extremely inquisitive, very intense, very alert, very exuberant and very demanding. Their intelligence level is high and they are loving and affectionate but can often be over-zealous and rather boisterous, thus training from an early age is imperative. Potential owners must be prepared to give regular and constant time from puppyhood through the dogs entire life, as this mischievous individual can be very naughty at any age. Constant human company is vital to the well-being of the Irish Red & White setter and his owner! If you would like to be further educated about this interesting breed or would like information and contact details for other breeders, please make contact.
